Tracy Mazur, an administrative assistant in the Canyons School District preschool department, will be the first Utahn to judge agility at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
Mazur got the call from Westminster organizer Paul Campanella asking her to judge at the January 2027 show, as first reported by the Deseret News. She initially thought the "Westminster, New York" caller ID was spam, or maybe a friend playing a prank.
She answered anyway.
"I'm not sure, but I'm sure glad they did," Mazur told the Deseret News when asked how the organizers picked her.
The Westminster Kennel Club, established in 1877, hosts what it calls the second-longest continuously held sporting event in the country. The show has been televised since 1948 and draws nearly 3,000 dogs from across the United States and abroad each year.
Agility judges do more than rate a dog's performance. They design and build the obstacle course of teeter-totters, slides, jumps, hurdles and tunnels that dogs navigate at full speed. Mazur will set up the agility course at the Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. The agility championship takes place Saturday, Jan. 30, 2027. The purebred Best of Show competition follows at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 1-2, where Mazur will attend as a VIP guest.
Mazur grew up in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, where her parents bred and trained dogs to compete. She has competed with multiple breeds over the years and now keeps three cocker spaniels. After moving to Utah, she met her husband, T.J., at a dog show agility competition.
When she's not training or judging dogs, Mazur works at the Canyons School District offices. She has already started shopping for new outfits for the trip to New York.
"In the dog world, this is about as big as it gets," she told the Deseret News.
