Chamberlain University opens its first Utah campus in Sandy on Oct. 26, offering a nursing degree that students with enough qualifying prior college credits can finish in just over two years.
The Salt Lake City campus, at 9490 S. 300 W., 3rd Floor, is Chamberlain's 26th location and first in Utah. Its pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing program requires no prerequisite coursework, allowing students to enter nursing classes from the start whether they are coming from high school or bringing prior college credits.
Three paths by transfer credit
The BSN offers three paths based on how many eligible credits a student can transfer:
- 122 credit hours over three years for students starting fresh.
- 89 credit hours in under three years for students transferring qualifying general education credits. Chamberlain says that path can save more than $24,000.
- 70 credit hours in just over two years for students transferring 33 general education credits and 19 science credits. Chamberlain says that path can save more than $38,000.
The accelerated timelines assume continuous full-time enrollment. Time and cost savings vary by student, and transfer credit acceptance is not guaranteed. Chamberlain reviews previous coursework to determine whether credits can be applied toward the degree.
LPN and LVN route
Licensed practical nurses and licensed vocational nurses have another route into the program.
The Utah campus says licensed LPNs and LVNs can earn up to nine proficiency credits after passing proficiency and skills-validation tests, allowing them to receive credit for some foundational BSN coursework.
How to apply
There is no application fee. Applicants submit transcripts and a HESI Admission Assessment score, or ACT, SAT or TEAS results from the past five years. Chamberlain offers a free BSN Readiness Course covering the HESI A2 subjects for applicants who want additional preparation.
The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Chamberlain University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, and the Sandy campus has state approvals from the Utah Board of Nursing and Utah Department of Commerce, according to the university.
Classes at the Utah campus start three times a year, according to Chamberlain's Utah program page. The campus is near the Historic Sandy and Sandy Expo TRAX Blue Line stations.
Trevor Scott, executive campus director for the Salt Lake City location, told the Draper Herald on Sept. 17 that the goal is graduates who are "practice-ready, community-rooted, and prepared for what healthcare looks like today and tomorrow."
Financial aid
The Chamberlain Care Grant provides up to $4,000 for new BSN students who qualify for the Federal Pell Grant and remain enrolled in at least six credit hours for their first four consecutive sessions. The grant applies to tuition only and cannot be combined with other institutional offers, military rates or alumni rates.
The university said on its campus page that it awarded more than $14 million in scholarships and grants for pre-licensure BSN programs in 2025.
The campus phone number is 855-541-5853, and office hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
