Sandy residents will receive their 2026 general election ballots starting Oct. 13. The county is offering a first-ever Saturday early voting session Oct. 31, and Sandy's three drop boxes will accept ballots through Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Salt Lake County confirmed on its official Facebook page that the election is proceeding as planned following a Sept. 14 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that raised questions about election mail. Ballots will mail on schedule and vote centers will operate as announced, the county said.
The Salt Lake Tribune first reported the full timeline of key dates, including Saturday early voting on Oct. 31 at the Salt Lake County Government Center, open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The county added the session to reach voters who cannot get to the polls during the workweek.
Here are the dates Sandy voters need to know.
Oct. 13: Ballots begin mailing
The Salt Lake County Clerk's office will send ballots to every active registered voter, meaning anyone who registered recently or voted in at least one of the past two general elections.
Oct. 20: Early in-person voting opens
The Salt Lake County Government Center at 2001 S. State St. in Salt Lake City opens for early voting Tuesday, Oct. 20, through Friday, Oct. 30, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
Oct. 23: Registration deadline to avoid a provisional ballot
Friday, Oct. 23, at 5 p.m. is the last day to register online or by mail without needing a provisional ballot, according to the state voter information pamphlet. Voters who miss this deadline can still register in person on Election Day but must cast a provisional ballot, which takes longer to verify.
Oct. 27–30: Satellite early voting locations open
Satellite locations open Tuesday, Oct. 27, through Friday, Oct. 30, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The nearest sites to Sandy are Draper City Hall at 1020 E. Pioneer Road and Cottonwood Heights at 2197 Fort Union Blvd. No Sandy-specific satellite location appears on the county's current list.
Oct. 27 is also the last day to request a mail-in ballot, except for military and overseas voters.
Oct. 31: Saturday early voting
The Government Center opens Saturday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Saturday session is only confirmed at the downtown Salt Lake City location.
Nov. 3: Election Day
Polls open Tuesday, Nov. 3. Same-day voter registration is available, though those voters must use a provisional ballot. All mail ballots must reach a drop box by 8 p.m.
Sandy has three drop box locations: Sandy City Hall at 10000 Centennial Parkway, Sandy Senior Center at 9310 S. 1300 East and White City Water Improvement District at 999 E. Galena Drive. All three accept ballots around the clock until 8 p.m. on Election Day.
What's on the ballot
Beyond federal and state races, Sandy voters will decide on a $30 million general obligation bond to buy and renovate the former Crescent View Middle School into a community center. The Sandy City Council approved placing the measure on the ballot Aug. 11. The 21-year bond would raise property taxes on a $739,100 home by about $5 per month, the Sandy Journal reported.
Sandy City Council Chair Marci Houseman said at the Aug. 11 meeting, according to the Sandy Journal, that the $30 million cap protects taxpayers. "I believe $30 million protects taxpayers because that number, that $30 million, is locked in as a finite project with a finite time limit," Houseman said.
Voters can track their ballot at vote.utah.gov or contact the Salt Lake County Clerk's office at 385-468-7400.
