Real Salt Lake's record-breaking homegrown star Zavier Gozo has completed his medical with Crystal Palace in London and will join the Premier League club's preseason this week, according to sources cited by The Athletic, finalizing a transfer worth approximately $15 million.

The deal, reported by MLS insider Tom Bogert on Monday, Aug. 10, makes the 19-year-old winger the first RSL academy product ever sold directly to the Premier League. The fee shatters RSL's previous club record, the $11 million sale of Andres Gomez to French side Rennes in 2024, advancing what the Sandy Herald reported Aug. 6 as a deal nearing completion.

Gozo, born in West Valley and raised in Eagle Mountain, signed a professional contract with RSL's reserve squad Real Monarchs at 15. He made 50 first-team appearances at America First Field in Sandy, scoring six goals with five assists in 16 games this season while converting from winger to wing-back.

The move caps a breakout 2026 for Gozo. He became the youngest player in RSL's 22-year history to score a brace, netting twice against Houston on May 13 at 19 years and 54 days old. In July, he was voted the first Utah native ever selected to an MLS All-Star First XI, joining Lionel Messi and Son Heung-min on the roster.

"For me he's a unicorn," RSL head coach Pablo Mastroeni said in June upon Gozo's All-Star selection, per KSL Sports. "Very rarely do you have a guy that is as fast as he is that can maintain the speed and endurance over 90 minutes. From that perspective, he is world-class. I'm saying Premier League. I'm saying any league in the world."

Gozo spent last offseason staying on the training pitch long after teammates had gone home, dedicating extra sessions to strengthening his left foot. RSL staff repeatedly noticed him still working alone.

The teenager made no secret of his ambitions. On "MLS Countdown" in late April, Gozo said he wanted to move to Europe in the summer window, calling it his dream "for as long as I could remember," per the Deseret News.

RSL ownership had hoped to keep Gozo through the full season. CEO Steve Starks said in July that the organization prefers to complete transfers after the season ends rather than mid-season. But as Gozo pushed for a summer move and Crystal Palace's offer met RSL's valuation, the club agreed. Aston Villa and Atlético Madrid showed interest earlier in 2026, but neither bid reached RSL's asking price.

Crystal Palace, who ended a 70-year trophy drought with an FA Cup win in 2025 and qualified for this season's Europa League, open their Premier League campaign Saturday, Aug. 22 against Everton. Gozo will join fellow American Chris Richards in the squad under new head coach Pierre Sage.

An unusual wrinkle connects the two clubs: Crystal Palace investor David Blitzer remains a minority owner of Real Salt Lake after Miller Sports + Entertainment purchased a controlling interest last year.

Gozo is also a strong candidate to earn his first senior U.S. national team cap this fall after narrowly missing the 2026 World Cup squad.

Back in Sandy, RSL plays on without their breakout star. The club hosts FC Juárez in a Leagues Cup group-stage finale Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 9:30 p.m. MT at America First Field, then returns to MLS play against Minnesota United on Saturday, Aug. 15.
