Real Salt Lake brings an eight-game MLS winless streak into its home match Saturday, Sept. 5, against Los Angeles FC and star forward Son Heung-Min at America First Field.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Sandy. The match streams on Apple TV.

RSL (8-9-4, 28 points) sits 10th in the Western Conference, one point outside the playoff line with 13 games remaining. The club hasn't won a league match since May 16, when Sergi Solans and Zavier Gozo led a 2-1 comeback over Colorado at home. Since then, the slide has included a 3-0 Leagues Cup exit to Club León on Aug. 25 and a 1-0 loss at Colorado on Aug. 29 that handed the Rapids the Rocky Mountain Cup for a third straight season.

The Colorado loss also cost RSL designated player Morgan Guilavogui, who picked up a yellow card and will miss the LAFC match due to caution accumulation, according to KSL Sports.

RSL manager Pablo Mastroeni pointed to defensive breakdowns as the root of the skid. Speaking to KSL Sports on Aug. 28, ahead of the Colorado match, Mastroeni said the standard he set was clear: "This is no longer an option. It's a non-negotiable."

After the Aug. 29 loss, Mastroeni told KSL Sports that set-piece defending was the priority, calling the match "a 0-0 game" before the set-piece goal that decided it.

LAFC presents a steep challenge. The club holds a 15-4-1 all-time record against RSL across MLS, Leagues Cup and playoff matches since the teams first met on March 10, 2018, per RSL's own match notes. LAFC beat RSL 3-1 at BMO Stadium on July 22 in their most recent meeting.

Son Heung-Min, who transferred to LAFC from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2025, finished his debut MLS season with nine goals and three assists. He had one goal and nine assists through July 21 in 2026. Teammate Denis Bouanga scored 24 goals and nine assists in 2025 and had seven goals and five assists through the same date.

RSL's best argument for optimism is its home form. The club is 18-5-4 at America First Field since June 1, 2025, and 10-2-2 at home in 2026, outscoring visitors 34-15. Solans, the rookie who signed a contract extension through 2029-30, leads the team with 13 goals across all competitions, surpassing Corey Baird's previous RSL rookie record of eight goals set in 2019.

After LAFC, RSL stays home for NYCFC on Sept. 12 and Vancouver on Sept. 19.
