Real Salt Lake's 4-0 demolition of Atlante FC on Saturday, Aug. 8, at America First Field flipped the club's Leagues Cup outlook from survival mode to contention heading into Tuesday, Aug. 11's Leagues Cup group-stage finale against FC Juárez.

Four different scorers, a crowd of 19,510 and RSL's third clean sheet of 2026 made it the club's first four-goal win since June 2024. The result snapped a five-game winless run and gave the Claret-and-Cobalt 4 Leagues Cup points, setting up a straightforward path: beat Juárez in regulation Tuesday and RSL reaches 7 points, putting the club in strong contention for a top-four MLS finish and a berth in the 2027 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Saturday's goals

Diego Luna orchestrated the attack with two assists. In the 17th minute, Luna dribbled to the goal line, drew Atlante's goalkeeper out of position and slid the ball centrally for Sergi Solans to finish one-touch. It was Solans' 10th goal across all competitions in 2026, extending his lead in RSL's Golden Boot race.

Zach Booth doubled the lead in the 50th minute, his first MLS goal at home. Luna found the Utah native wide, and Booth outpaced multiple defenders into the box. Four minutes later, Lukas Engel converted off a free kick sequence. Luna played the ball to the back post for Morgan Guilavogui, whose one-touch layoff found Engel for the finish. It was Engel's second goal in RSL's last five matches after going scoreless through his first 49 career appearances.

Pablo Ruiz capped the rout in the 90th minute with an unassisted left-footed shot into the bottom corner, his second goal in consecutive Leagues Cup matches after also scoring against Tigres UANL on Aug. 4.

What it means for Tuesday

Head coach Pablo Mastroeni made six lineup changes from the Tigres match, reuniting designated player Guilavogui with Luna and Solans up front. The gamble paid off.

"There won't be anyone resting on their laurels," Mastroeni said after Saturday's win, according to MLS Soccer. "This performance, if we play the same game, it might not be good enough against Juárez. So, we've got to double down."

FC Juárez arrives in Sandy on Tuesday with 6 points from regulation wins over Minnesota United (2-1 on Aug. 4) and Vancouver Whitecaps (3-1 on Aug. 7). The Mexican club has already nearly locked up a Liga MX top-four spot, but Tuesday marks its first-ever visit to Utah. Former RSL Academy product and Park City native Sebastian "Bofo" Saucedo played 17 games for Juárez from 2023-25.

RSL's home record in 2026 now stands at 9-1-0 across all competitions. Under the Leagues Cup format, a regulation win earns 3 points; a shootout win earns 2 and a shootout loss earns 1. The top four MLS clubs advance to the quarterfinals.
