Sandy residents can drop off winter coats, hats and blankets at local businesses through Nov. 20 as part of the 14th annual Warm Bodies, Warm Souls clothing drive.
The statewide campaign is organized by Bank of Utah, Arctic Circle and Red Hanger. It launched Monday, Oct. 19, and accepts gently used coats, scarves, gloves and blankets, along with new socks and underwear, ABC4 reported. Items must be clean and in good condition.
Donations can be left at any participating Bank of Utah branch, Arctic Circle restaurant or Red Hanger dry-cleaning location. Bank of Utah operates a Sandy branch at 9320 South State St., according to the bank's website.
Each donor receives a coupon for a free double cheeseburger from Arctic Circle or a free shirt cleaning from Red Hanger.
The drive benefits 15 nonprofit organizations serving communities across Utah. Recipients include Crossroads Urban Center in Salt Lake City, The Road Home's Men's Resource Center, Bountiful Community Pantry, Catholic Community Services in Ogden, Tabitha's Way and Switchpoint. Other beneficiaries serve areas stretching across the state.
Last year, donors contributed 561 bags of warm clothing and $10,040 in cash across 73 collection sites statewide, according to a press release cited by ABC4. The campaign has been running since 2011.
Jodi Lunt, chief development officer at Switchpoint, a nonprofit focused on addressing homelessness, said in a statement that every coat, blanket or pair of gloves donated helps the state's most vulnerable residents stay warm through the winter. Lunt called the annual drive an example of what communities can accomplish when they come together.
