Expansion Capital Group, a South Dakota fintech lender, opened its first office outside headquarters in Sandy on Aug. 3.

The 101-employee company announced the expansion in an Aug. 31 press release carried by Utah Business, nearly a month after the office began operating. The new location at 200 W. Civic Center Drive, Suite 120, sits inside the South Towne Corporate Center, a multi-tenant office building that also houses Ally Bank's Utah office.

The company is already hiring.

ECG CEO Tim Mages said the move reflects Utah's growing fintech workforce.

"Utah has become one of the nation's most vibrant fintech and technology markets, attracting exceptional talent, entrepreneurial energy, and a strong culture of innovation," Mages said in the press release.

Open positions listed on ECG's LinkedIn page include a quality assurance analyst and merchant support associates, available in either Sioux Falls, S.D., or Sandy. The company has not disclosed how many total employees it plans to hire at the Sandy office or a timeline for reaching full staffing.

Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Sioux Falls, ECG provides working capital to small businesses. The company reports it has funded more than 40,000 businesses with over $1.5 billion since its founding. Those figures are self-reported; in January 2025, the company cited $1.2 billion deployed to more than 30,000 businesses when it announced a $100 million credit facility.

The Sandy office will focus on serving referral partners, brokers and merchants across the Mountain West and West Coast, according to the press release. Mages said the company's mission centers on helping small-business owners access capital, and the Utah location will strengthen that effort.

American Banker ranked ECG No. 28 on its 2026 Best Fintechs to Work For list in May, the fifth time the company made the ranking. ECG also placed No. 4076 on the 2025 Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies.
