Thurl Bailey's JamFest 3v3 tournament returns to Sandy Promenade Aug. 29

Utah Jazz legend Thurl Bailey is bringing his annual 3v3 streetball tournament back to Sandy Promenade on Saturday, Aug. 29, with registration open through Aug. 21 at $165 per team.

The event, called Thurl Bailey's JamFest 3v3 Streetball Tournament, features boys' and girls' youth divisions from 8U through 18U along with competitive and elite adult divisions for men and women, according to Fox 13. Teams can carry three to five players.

Beyond the main bracket play, the tournament includes a 3-Point Contest, Dunk Contest and 1v1 King of the Court competition. Each side event costs $20 to enter. Prizes range from clothing and blankets to movie tickets.

Sandy Promenade sits at 10011 Centennial Pkwy, just east of I-15 near the Mountain America Expo Center. The outdoor venue has hosted the tournament before. JamFest Utah's motto is "all ages all abilities."

Bailey, 65, was the Jazz's seventh overall pick in the 1983 NBA Draft and spent nine of his 12 professional seasons in Utah. He won the NBA's J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award for community service in the 1988-89 season. Since retiring in 2000, he has worked as a TV analyst for Jazz broadcasts.

In a Legends Magazine profile about his community work, Bailey described youth outreach as central to his post-playing career, saying he has always tried to put himself in the best position to make a difference in kids' lives. That philosophy drives JamFest, which welcomes participants from age 8 through adult.
