Nearly four out of five Alta High School students who sat for Advanced Placement exams last year scored a 3 or above, according to the school's 2025-26 academic profile posted Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, the same day Canyons School District opened back-to-school registration.

The 79.6% AP pass rate marks a significant jump from 68% in the prior year's profile, a gain that arrived alongside a 63% increase in concurrent enrollment participation and a doubling of college credit hours earned.

By the numbers

For 2025-26, Alta lists 63 AP courses, 17 Honors courses, and 26 Concurrent Enrollment offerings for its 2,234 students. That's up sharply from 25 AP, 14 Honors, and 23 CE options the year before.

The concurrent enrollment surge stands out: 692 students completed at least one college-level course in 2024-25 and collectively earned 4,476 credit hours. A year earlier, 424 students earned 2,219 credits. For the upcoming school year, 700 students are already enrolled in a CE course.

Of the 575 graduates in the class of 2025, 107 earned the Advanced Diploma and 150 earned the Honors Diploma. Three students were named National Merit finalists. Eighty-seven percent of graduates went on to college, with 71% heading to four-year institutions.

Scholarship offers and biliteracy

The class of 2025 received $9,834,754 in total scholarship offers. That figure is down from $10,321,926 reported for the prior graduating class, though both numbers represent offers rather than final awards.

Seventy-three students earned the Utah State Seal of Biliteracy, awarded to students who demonstrate proficiency in English and at least one world language. That's up from 55 the year before. Alta also maintains two Latinos in Action classes whose members tutor elementary students and organize events including Latino Family Night.

Speech and debate

The Alta Speech and Debate team placed second in state for the second consecutive year and has consistently qualified more than 14 students per year to the national tournament. Five students earned the Academic All-American award.

What's ahead for families

Principal Kenneth Rowley leads the school at 11055 South 1000 East in Sandy, supported by assistant principals Melissa Lister, Mark Mitchell, Brandon Jacobson, and Kalisi Uluave.

Registration opened Monday, Aug. 3 at 8:30 a.m. through the district's new Skyward Qmlativ system. The first day of school for grades 1-12 is Monday, Aug. 17. Canyons School District will also hold a Truth-in-Taxation hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 4, to address a proposed property tax rate increase for the 2026-27 school year.
