Alta High School seniors can complete college applications during school hours the week of Oct. 5. The Sandy campus will host Utah College Application Week (UCAW) from Monday, Oct. 5, through Friday, Oct. 9, with daily activities aimed at the school's 547-member graduating class.

Applications are free for participating seniors under the statewide program, according to the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE).

The week opens Monday with a spirit day. Students are invited to wear college gear.

Tuesday, Oct. 6, brings a donut breakfast where seniors can meet college representatives from across the state and ask questions about admissions. On Wednesday, Oct. 7, and Thursday, Oct. 8, counselors led by department chair Christine Astle will visit English Language Arts classes to walk seniors through the application process.

The school's announcement encouraged students to wear college swag throughout the week.

UCAW is a statewide program run by USHE. Its aim is to give every senior at participating high schools the chance to submit at least one college application during the school day. The program focuses on first-generation college students, low-income families and students who might not otherwise apply, according to USHE. Utah joined the national American College Application Campaign in 2013, and UCAW events run every October at participating Utah high schools.

Alta is not the only Canyons School District campus taking part. Jordan High School listed its own UCAW window as Oct. 5–14 on the school's website.

According to Alta's 2026–2027 school profile, 71% of graduates attend a four-year institution and 15.5% enroll in a two-year school. Last year's senior class received nearly $9.9 million in scholarship offers. The school enrolls 2,177 students total, with 694 taking Advanced Placement courses and 667 in concurrent enrollment.

USHE notes that FAFSA Night events also take place in October, though no Alta-specific date has been announced. Families with questions can reach Alta's counseling office at 801-826-5600.
