Alta, Hillcrest and Jordan all won on Friday, Sept. 25, with the Hawks' 21-point fourth-quarter rally at Woods Cross headlining a clean sweep for Sandy-area football in Week 7.
Alta 27, Woods Cross 21
Alta trailed entering the fourth quarter, then erupted for 21 points in the final period to steal a Region 6 road win.
Quarterback Xavier Cocci sparked the comeback with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Ryland Clayton with 11:53 left. Cocci then connected with Lucas Pagel on a 49-yard scoring strike with 2:02 remaining to give the Hawks the lead. Cocci added a 15-yard touchdown run at the 1:23 mark to extend it.
Woods Cross answered with a 1-yard touchdown run by Tage Ita with 12 seconds left, but it wasn't enough.
Alta improved to 5-2 overall and sits second in Region 6, according to MaxPreps. After the Hawks' Week 6 win over Olympus, head coach Blake Burdette told the Deseret News the victory gave his team "some momentum going into the game with Woods Cross."
Hillcrest 48, West Jordan 8
Hillcrest put on the most lopsided performance of the night, rolling past West Jordan in a Region 4 blowout at home.
Quarterback K'Von Houston completed 24 of 36 passes for 312 yards and five touchdowns. He has thrown 22 touchdown passes through seven games this season. Keli'i Batimana hauled in a 31-yard score in the first quarter, and Alani Latu caught two touchdown passes in the opening period as the Huskies built a 21-0 lead.
Levi Lavaka and Collin Ence added second-quarter touchdown receptions. Ence caught another scoring pass in the third quarter. Lavaka also returned a fumble for a touchdown. Hillcrest led 41-8 at halftime and coasted from there.
"We were ready to respond," Hillcrest head coach Robby Kaelin told the Deseret News after the game. "We have the skill players and things just opened up."
The Huskies improved to 5-2 and sit second in Region 4. The Deseret News noted the win puts Hillcrest on pace for its first winning season since 2003.
Jordan 24, Judge Memorial 16
Jordan traveled to Salt Lake City and beat Judge Memorial in a nonregion matchup, improving to 3-4 on the season.
Quarterback Sterling Ostler connected with Landon Tibbets on a 42-yard touchdown with 52 seconds left in the second quarter, giving the Beetdiggers a lead they never surrendered. Ostler tacked on a 25-yard rushing touchdown with 18 seconds left in the half, and Jordan took a 14-3 lead into the break.
Jordan's defense held Judge Memorial to a single field goal through the first three quarters. Kean Konold's 32-yard field goal in the third quarter pushed the lead to 17-3. Traeson Ewing then caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Ostler with 4:11 left in the fourth to make it 24-3.
Judge Memorial rallied late. William Shum-Kuen scored on an 8-yard run with 5:29 left, and Alan Asiata punched in a 2-yard touchdown with 38 seconds remaining, but a failed two-point conversion sealed the Beetdiggers' victory.
