Families looking to stretch their back-to-school budgets can bring outgrown kids' clothes to a free clothing swap Saturday, Aug. 8, at a field day hosted by the Family Support Center.

The Back to School Family Field Day runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Midvale City Park, 425 6th Ave., Midvale. The swap works simply: bring children's clothes your kids have outgrown and trade them for the next size up, free of charge.

Beyond the swap, the nonprofit is loading the day with lawn games, face painting, cotton candy, hot dogs and prizes.

Admission is free.

Canyons School District, which serves Sandy, starts the 2026-27 school year Monday, Aug. 17, for grades 1-12, according to KUTV. That puts the field day nine days before the first bell.

The Family Support Center, which operates crisis nurseries and transitional housing across Salt Lake County, served more than 450 families last year. • Sandy Balloon Festival sunrise launch: Approximately 6:30 a.m., Storm Mountain Park, 980 East 11400 South, Sandy. A record 17 balloons this year, plus tethered rides and food trucks. Free. As we reported Tuesday, the festival also features a drone show at approximately 10 p.m.
• Balloon Festival Glow Event: 7-10:30 p.m., City Promenade, 10000 South Centennial Parkway, Sandy. Bounce houses, face painting, caricatures. Free.
