Hillcrest senior Miles Ence hauled in five catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns Friday, Oct. 2, as the Huskies routed Cyprus 53-6 on the road in 5A Region 4 play.

The Deseret News named Ence one of the top Class 5A performers statewide for Week 8. The two-way player, listed as a tight end and defensive end on Hillcrest's MaxPreps roster, has also recorded four sacks, two fumble recoveries and two caused fumbles this season.

The offense didn't need much help finding the end zone. Senior quarterback K'Von Houston has thrown 27 touchdown passes at a 62.8% completion rate through eight games. Senior wideout Alani Latu leads the receiving corps at 108.0 yards per game with 12 total touchdowns. Senior Levi Lavaka adds 73.3 yards per game and eight scores.

Ence ranks third on the team in receiving yards per game at 48.0, behind Latu and Lavaka. His two-touchdown night against Cyprus showed what the Huskies' depth looks like when a third option explodes.

The 53-6 margin was the Huskies' second blowout in consecutive weeks. Hillcrest beat West Jordan 48-8 on Sept. 25.

After that West Jordan win, head coach Robby Kaelin pointed to the depth of his pass-catching group. "We have the skill players and things just opened up," Kaelin told the Deseret News after the Sept. 25 victory, adding that the team "took advantage of every opportunity."

The win over Cyprus pushed Hillcrest to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in Region 4, good for second place, according to MaxPreps. The Huskies have outscored opponents 289-146 through eight games.

Hillcrest could be closing in on its first winning season since 2003, a milestone the Deseret News flagged after the Sept. 25 victory.

The Huskies host Taylorsville on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. in a Region 4 matchup, then travel to Kearns on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
