Hillcrest quarterback K'Von Houston and Jordan's Sterling Ostler landed on the Deseret News statewide top-20 high school football performances list for Week 7, published Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Houston lights up West Jordan

Houston, a senior, completed 25 of 37 passes for 353 yards and six touchdowns in Hillcrest's 48-8 win over West Jordan. The Huskies led from the opening drive and never let up.

"We took advantage of every opportunity. We played a good game, except for not quite finishing it," Hillcrest coach Robby Kaelin told the Deseret News after the Huskies' Sept. 25 win over West Jordan.

Through seven games, Houston has thrown 22 touchdown passes and totaled 2,057 passing yards, ranking No. 1 in Utah's Class 5A and No. 5 statewide, according to MaxPreps. His 2,423 total yards rank No. 1 in 5A and No. 4 in Utah. The win lifted Hillcrest to 5-2 overall and second place in Region 4.

Ostler does it all for Jordan

Ostler, also a senior, was a dual threat against Judge Memorial Catholic High School. He rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown while passing for 182 yards and two more scores in Jordan's 24-16 victory.

That adds up to 300 total yards and three touchdowns in a single game.

On the season, Ostler leads the Beetdiggers in passing touchdowns with nine, rushing yards per game at 52.3 and completion percentage at 58.5%, according to MaxPreps. Senior receiver Landon Tibbetts has been his top target, averaging 65.0 receiving yards per game with six touchdowns.

The Deseret News compiles its weekly list from stats submitted by coaches around the state, with approximately 85% of coaches reporting each week.

Week 8 ahead

All three Sandy-area programs are in action for Week 8. Hillcrest hosts Cyprus, Jordan hosts Cottonwood, and Alta travels to Bountiful.
