America First Field delivered two nights of professional soccer this weekend, and Sandy's home teams came away with a historic win and a hard-fought point.

The Utah Royals broke their single-season franchise win record Friday, Aug. 14, beating Bay FC 3-2 in front of 7,020 fans. One night later, Real Salt Lake pushed its 2026 home record to 10-1-2 with a 1-1 draw against Minnesota United FC before 20,119, according to the Deseret News.

Royals make NWSL history

Three Japanese internationals scored for Utah in the same match, an NWSL first. Miyabi Moriya equalized in the seventh minute after Bay FC took an early lead off a deflection by goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn. Narumi Miura hammered a long-range strike in the 24th minute, her third goal of the season, set up by Cloé Lacasse's eighth assist of 2026, tied for second in the NWSL. After Bay FC leveled from a corner to make it 2-2 at halftime, Mina Tanaka converted a 79th-minute penalty for the winner, her sixth goal of the year.

"Having three Japanese players score a goal is something incredibly special, I'd say," Royals head coach Jimmy Coenraets said. "You can see the chemistry between them. So there is so much to be proud of tonight."

The victory was Utah's 11th of the season, a new franchise record, and pushed the club's 2026 goal total to 35, also a single-season best. Utah native Courtney Brown entered in the 81st minute to reach her 50th NWSL appearance.

RSL settles for a point

RSL lost Utah native Zach Booth to a 13th-minute injury, bringing on Polish midfielder Dominik Marczuk. Despite the early disruption, the hosts controlled possession. Defender Lukas Engel made a goal-line clearance in the 34th minute, and captain Rafael Cabral produced a one-on-one save in the 70th to keep Minnesota scoreless.

Sergi Solans finally broke through in the 82nd minute, assisted by Diego Luna, for his fourth goal in five August matches and his 12th across all competitions in 2026. But Minnesota equalized in the 87th, snapping RSL's 353-minute shutout streak and extending the club's MLS winless run to five.

RSL head coach Pablo Mastroeni said the performance didn't match the scoreline, noting his team could easily have won 3-0 or 4-0 if they'd finished their chances.

RSL sits sixth in the Western Conference with 28 points (8-6-4) through 18 matches. FC Dallas, Thursday's opponent, is one point behind at 27.

What's next

RSL hosts FC Dallas on Thursday, Aug. 20, at America First Field with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff, then travels to Orlando City on Saturday, Aug. 22. As we reported after RSL's round-of-16 win, the club also faces Club León in the Leagues Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday, Aug. 25, in Commerce City, Colorado.
