Sandy police responded to a reported shooting at a residence near 9700 South and 1200 East on Sunday, Sept. 27, less than a block from Eastmont Middle School.

The Sandy Police Department confirmed to ABC4 that officers were on scene and an active investigation was underway. Police did not release details about what happened, who was involved or whether any suspects had been identified.

The department has not confirmed that a shooting occurred. Officers responded to a report of gunfire, and the investigation remained open as of Sunday.

Officers received the report at approximately 12:34 p.m., according to SLCScanner, a Utah-based account that monitors police and fire radio traffic. The account, which states it is not affiliated with any emergency agency, reported that an ambulance transported one person to a hospital.

SLCScanner also relayed unconfirmed initial scanner information suggesting a male may have been shot. A second male, possibly younger, may have been shot in the leg, the account reported. Sandy police had not confirmed those details as of Sunday, Sept. 27.

@slcscanner: "I spoke with a Sandy Police sergeant, who confirmed officers are on scene investigating but did not have any additional information to release at this time."

KUTV also confirmed police presence at the scene Sunday afternoon but reported no additional details beyond the location.

Eastmont Middle School, a Canyons School District campus serving roughly 515 students in grades 6 through 8, sits adjacent to the area where police responded. The incident occurred on a Sunday, when regular classes were not in session.

The shooting is a separate incident from a drive-by shooting near 8400 South State Street on Thursday, Sept. 17, in which a suspect in a vehicle allegedly fired at two pedestrians. That case also remains under investigation.

No victims or suspects have been publicly identified in the Sept. 27 incident. Sandy police have not announced a timeline for releasing further information or scheduled a follow-up briefing.
