Hundreds of Sandy kids in Pre-K through second grade will get their first taste of organized baseball when Sandy City Parks & Recreation's fall T-Ball and Coach Pitch leagues open next week at Falcon Park.

Coach Pitch games for first and second graders begin Monday, Aug. 24. T-Ball for Pre-K and kindergarten players starts Tuesday, Aug. 25, with games running between 5 and 6 p.m. Both leagues play six games over the season at Falcon Park, 9200 S 1700 E.

Every registered player gets a team shirt and hat. The department, led by Parks & Recreation Director Ben Hill, provides bats, balls, tees, helmets and umpire gear. Kids only need to bring a glove.

The standard registration deadline passed Aug. 2, and late registration with a $10 fee opened Aug. 6, according to the Sandy Journal event listing. The city's baseball programs page notes that teams with four or more players must have a coach, and Sandy Parks & Recreation is actively seeking parent volunteers willing to model what the department calls the "Positive Parent Pledge." Interested parents can apply through the city's online volunteer coach form.

The leagues join a growing slate of fall youth sports at Falcon Park. As we reported Aug. 11, the city's flag football program for grades 1–4 kicked off its eight-game season the week of Aug. 17, meaning the park will host weeknight games across multiple sports through the fall.

Sandy Parks & Recreation described the leagues in its Aug. 14 listing as focused on building leaders and confident kids who cheer for their teammates as much as for themselves.
