Sandy kids in grades 1 through 4 will trade backpacks for flag belts next week when Sandy City Parks and Recreation's fall flag football program opens its eight-game season at Falcon Park.
Games begin Monday, Aug. 17, the same week Sandy-area students head back to class. Younger players in grades 1–2 take the field Mondays and Wednesdays, while grades 3–4 play Tuesdays and Thursdays. All games run from 5 to 7 p.m. at Falcon Park, 9200 S. 1700 East.
The program uses a no-contact format: players pull flags instead of tackling, eliminating head-contact risk. Sandy City Parks and Recreation describes the league as focused on teaching football fundamentals while prioritizing player safety.
Registration for the $75 season closed July 26. Each spot includes an eight-game schedule, a team shirt and a flag belt. Families who missed the deadline can call Sandy City Parks and Recreation at 801-568-2900 to ask about availability.
The flag football league is the latest in a string of youth programming from the department, which also ran MVP Minis Camp and Kids Camp earlier this summer.
What's next at Falcon Park:

- Tuesday, Aug. 18: Grades 3–4 flag football season opener, 5 p.m.
