Canyons School District opens back-to-school registration for the 2026–2027 school year at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 3. The district is urging families to verify their login credentials before that date because the portal now runs on Skyward Qmlativ, a new student information system that went live July 20.

Every student in the district must complete the online process, from incoming kindergartners to returning seniors. Families still log in at student.canyonsdistrict.org, using the same Family Access credentials they've used in past years. But the look and navigation will be different.

The district recommends parents confirm their username and password before Aug. 3. Forgotten passwords can be reset through the Family Access portal. Families who need help can call the Canyons Help Desk at 801-826-5544 or the Skyward login line at 801-826-5525.

Business Administrator Leon Wilcox told the Canyons Board of Education at its June 2 meeting that the goal was "to hit implementation targets so CSD can have a smooth back-to-school registration process in the fall."

New students

Families new to Canyons must create a Skyward Family Access account by completing the New Student Online Enrollment form at student.canyonsdistrict.org before registration day. Anyone who started but did not finish enrollment before the Friday, June 26 system transition should check whether their application carried over, according to district guidance, and may need to restart in the new Qmlativ platform.

What happens during registration

Once logged in, families will add funds to school lunch accounts and pay fees by credit card. Fee waivers are available through the free and reduced-price lunch application, which can be completed during the registration process.

The district will send detailed instructions by email and through ParentSquare before Aug. 3. Tutorials and guides will also be posted at canyonsdistrict.org/back-to-school.

In-person help

Families who prefer face-to-face assistance have two district-hosted events:

  • Wednesday, Aug. 5, 4–7 p.m. — Midvale Middle School, 7852 S. Pioneer St., Midvale
  • Thursday, Aug. 6, 4–7 p.m. — Mt. Jordan Middle School, 9351 S. Mountaineer Ln., Sandy

Individual schools will also offer walk-in registration; families should contact their child's school for specific dates and times.
