Real Salt Lake returns to Sandy for three Leagues Cup 2026 group-stage matches against Liga MX opponents at America First Field, starting with perennial Mexican title contender Tigres UANL on Tuesday, August 4, at 8 p.m. MT.

The club will also host Atlante CF on Saturday, August 8, and FC Juárez on Tuesday, August 11, giving Sandy fans three shots at international competition in eight days.

RSL needs the home crowd. The club dropped back-to-back road matches after the FIFA World Cup break, falling 3-1 at LAFC on Wednesday, July 22, and 2-1 at Portland on Sunday, July 26. At America First Field, RSL is 8-1-0 in MLS play this season.

"We can't defend with nine. We've got to defend with eleven," head coach Pablo Mastroeni said on July 25 ahead of the Portland match, reflecting on the LAFC loss that exposed defensive breakdowns despite RSL generating 28 shots.

The Portland result was worse. Morgan Guilavogui earned a red card for violent conduct in the 31st minute, and Felipe Mora headed in twice off set pieces to complete the Timbers' comeback. Mastroeni told reporters after the July 26 loss at Portland that the two set-piece goals conceded were "really poor."

Midfielder Noel Caliskan, speaking after the Portland loss on July 26, urged perspective: the team had played shorthanded for 60 minutes across two difficult road environments.

What's at stake

Leagues Cup 2026 runs August 4 through September 6 and features all 18 Liga MX clubs alongside 18 qualified MLS sides. Three spots in the 2027 CONCACAF Champions Cup are on the line, with the tournament champion earning a direct berth to the Round of 16.

RSL enters ranked 30th out of 36 participants based on 2025 results and sits fifth of six teams in the West 1 pod, which also includes MLS sides Vancouver and Minnesota.

The opponents

Tigres UANL reached the 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup final and has won three of four all-time meetings against RSL, including a 1-0 result in Sandy during the 2019 Leagues Cup Showcase. RSL's lone win came in a 2008 friendly at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Tuesday's match will be the fifth meeting between the clubs.

Atlante CF recently returned to Liga MX's top flight after acquiring Mazatlán's franchise and now plays home matches at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

FC Juárez makes its first-ever visit to Utah. The club, founded in 2015, features a local connection: Park City native Sebastian "Bofo" Saucedo, a former RSL Academy product, played 17 games for Juárez from 2023 to 2025.

Key RSL players to watch

Eagle Mountain native Zavier Gozo, 19, leads the attack with six goals and five assists in 2026 and earned an MLS All-Star selection. Rookie forward Sergi Solans has matched Gozo's six goals while adding three assists. Juan Manuel Sanabria, who scored RSL's lone goal at Portland, has six assists on the season.

History against Mexican clubs

RSL's all-time home record against Liga MX visitors is 6-6-5, with Mexican clubs outscoring the Claret-and-Cobalt 24-21 across those 17 matches. In Leagues Cup 2025, RSL drew with Club América and Atlético San Luis at home before defeating Querétaro 1-0 in the group-stage finale. Goalkeeper Rafael Cabral had a signature moment denying América in a penalty-kick session.

Schedule ahead

The three Leagues Cup home matches are part of a stretch of five home games between August 4 and August 19. RSL still has one MLS road match at St. Louis City SC on Saturday, August 1, before the Leagues Cup opener. The club's next MLS regular-season home match after the tournament is Saturday, August 15, against Minnesota United.

Tickets are available at RSL.com/Tickets. Kickoff time for the August 8 match against Atlante has not been announced.
