Sandy voters who want to cast a ballot in person on a weekend can do so for the first time when Salt Lake County opens Saturday early voting on Oct. 31.

The session runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the south building of the Salt Lake County Government Center, 2001 S. State St. in Salt Lake City, according to ABC4. Voters need valid identification. They can also drop off completed mail ballots during that window.

Because Oct. 31 falls on Halloween, the county said voters are welcome to celebrate but should leave any costumes that cover their face at home.

"We're excited to offer early voting on a Saturday for the first time," Salt Lake County Clerk Lannie Chapman said, according to ABC4.

More early voting locations open Tuesday

Early voting at the Government Center began Oct. 20 and runs weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct. 30, according to the county's official election notice. Starting Tuesday, Oct. 27, seven additional locations open across the county from 3 to 7 p.m. through Friday, Oct. 30.

Those satellite sites are Draper City Hall, Whitmore Library in Cottonwood Heights, Murray City Hall, the J. Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah, South Jordan Library, West Jordan City Hall and Hunter Library in West Valley City. None of the seven satellite locations are in Sandy.

Sandy options on Election Day

On Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, three Sandy vote centers will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.: Sandy Library at 10100 S. Petunia Way, Sandy City Hall at 10000 Centennial Pkwy and the Cottonwood Improvement District Office at 8620 Highland Dr. Registered voters can use any vote center in the county with valid ID, KUTV reported.

Turnout is already building. About 77,000 Salt Lake County ballots had been returned as of the end of the day Oct. 22, and the county's turnout rate stood at 9.9%, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. That was 1.6 percentage points higher than the rest of the state.

Mail ballots must arrive at the county clerk's office or a drop box by 8 p.m. on Nov. 3. Voters with questions can reach the Salt Lake County Clerk's office at (385) 468-7400 or [email protected].
