Real Salt Lake returns to America First Field on Tuesday night riding an 8-1-0 home record and a six-match unbeaten streak, but minus homegrown midfielder Griffin Dillon, who fractured his fifth metatarsal Saturday and faces surgery.
Kickoff against Liga MX side Tigres UANL is Tuesday, August 4, at 8 p.m. MDT in the first of five home matches RSL will play over 15 days.
Fresh momentum, costly injury
RSL's 1-1 draw at St. Louis on Saturday, August 1 snapped a two-game road losing streak and ended St. Louis City's five-match home winning run. Sergi Solans netted his seventh goal of the season in the 60th minute, set up by a no-look pass from Saba Lobjanidze, the Georgian midfielder acquired from Atlanta United on July 1. That goal gives the Spanish rookie sole possession of RSL's 2026 scoring lead.
The cost was steep. Dillon went down at halftime with the metatarsal fracture, and head coach Pablo Mastroeni confirmed the surgery requirement after the match, according to KSL Sports. RSL also entered Saturday's game without wing back Zavier Gozo (hip strain suffered at the MLS All-Star Game) and designated player Morgan Guilavogui (red card suspension from Portland). Gozo's availability for Tuesday remains unclear.
"The positive from this game is a result for the group that was willing to suffer when we weren't at our best with the ball," Mastroeni said after the draw.
What RSL brings home
The numbers at America First Field tell the story: 8-1-0, outscoring visitors 22-9, according to RSL's official game notes. The lone home loss came April 22 against Inter Miami. RSL sits fifth in the Western Conference at 27 points (8-6-3) with 17 regular-season games still to play.
Tuesday marks Pablo Mastroeni's 202nd match in charge across all competitions.
Tigres in transition
Tigres arrive under interim head coach Hernán Elizondo after Guido Pizarro resigned. Their 2026-27 Liga MX campaign has been rocky, with a recent 3-2 loss to Querétaro and nearly three goals conceded per game, per MLSSoccer.com.
Still, this is a club that reached the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup final just months ago, knocking off FC Cincinnati, Seattle, and Nashville before falling to Toluca on penalty kicks. RSL's all-time record against Mexican visitors at home is an even 6-6-5.
Tournament format and what's next
Leagues Cup 2026 runs August 4 through September 6, featuring 18 MLS and 18 Liga MX clubs. There are no draws in Phase One; tied matches go straight to penalties. The top three finishers qualify for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.
After Tigres, RSL hosts Atlante CF on Saturday, August 8, and FC Juárez on Tuesday, August 11, to close out the Leagues Cup group stage at home.
