Real Salt Lake grabbed a road point Saturday, August 1, but lost homegrown midfielder Griffin Dillon to a broken foot in a 1-1 draw at St. Louis City SC at Energizer Park.

Dillon, a Draper native who signed his first MLS contract in January after back-to-back MLS NEXT Pro MVP seasons with Real Monarchs, fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot and was replaced at halftime. Manager Pablo Mastroeni confirmed after the match that the injury will require surgery.

The club was already shorthanded. Zavier Gozo missed the trip after straining his hip at the MLS All-Star Game in Charlotte on Thursday, July 30, and designated player Morgan Guilavogui remained suspended following his red card in the July 25 loss at Portland.

Those absences opened doors. Eden, Utah, native Zach Booth started at right wingback for the first time since May 23, and Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos made his first career MLS start up top in place of Guilavogui. Rodrigues dos Santos has five goals and two assists in 14 MLS NEXT Pro appearances this season.

RSL managed zero shots in a first half dominated by St. Louis, which out-shot the visitors 7-0 before the break. The match turned when Mastroeni introduced newly acquired winger Saba Lobjanidze at halftime.

"I thought he changed the game for us, and found moments in transition," Mastroeni told KSL Sports. Lobjanidze now has two assists in three appearances since joining RSL on July 1.

Sergi Solans broke through in the 60th minute. Noel Caliskan found Lobjanidze, whose backheel set up Solans for a left-footed finish. It was Solans' team-leading seventh goal of the season.

The lead lasted just 12 minutes. Marcel Hartel, a 65th-minute substitute for St. Louis, intercepted a misplaced pass from RSL goalkeeper Rafael Cabral and finished with his right foot to level the score.

Sam Junqua nearly had RSL in front earlier, forcing a save from Roman Burki with a left-footed volley in the 55th minute. Mastroeni praised both Junqua and Booth after the final whistle, calling Booth "excellent on both sides of the ball" and crediting Junqua with a "top, top performance" defending against St. Louis' rotating attackers.

The draw extends RSL's overall unbeaten run to six matches, though the club's road winless streak grew to seven games. Real Salt Lake sits fifth in the Western Conference at 8-6-3 with 27 points.

Now the focus shifts to Sandy. RSL hosts Liga MX powerhouse Tigres UANL in the Leagues Cup opener Tuesday, August 4, at 8 p.m. MT at America First Field, then welcomes Liga MX side Atlante on Saturday, August 8, as part of a stretch of five home matches in 15 days.
