An adult man was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound inside a Sandy home Sunday, Sept. 27. A juvenile male has been booked into detention in connection with the shooting, the Sandy Police Department said.

Officers responded to a residence near 9700 South and 1200 East at about 12:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting, as first reported by Gephardt Daily. When they arrived, they took one juvenile male into custody without incident, the department said in a statement.

After entering the home, officers found the adult male dead. They also found a second juvenile male inside the residence with a gunshot wound to the leg, according to the department's statement.

The injured juvenile was taken to a local hospital and was in stable condition, the department said.

Detectives took over the investigation at the scene. The juvenile suspect was later booked into juvenile detention, the department said. Charges had not been filed as of Monday, Sept. 28, but the department said they would be forthcoming.

The department has not released the identities of the man who died or either juvenile. Police have not disclosed a motive, and no information about the relationship between those involved has been made public. The ages of both juveniles remain confidential.

The department said it would not release additional information because the case involves juveniles. The investigation remains active, police said.

Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public based on what was known as of Monday, Sept. 28.

We reported earlier Sunday that officers were on scene investigating a shooting in the area. The residence is near Eastmont Middle School. At the time, police had not confirmed any details about victims or suspects.
