A Spirit Halloween pop-up store is coming to 10230 S. State Street in Sandy, next to Old Navy in the South Towne retail district, with an August opening planned.
The seasonal retailer confirmed the Sandy location on its store locator with a listed start date of Tuesday, July 28. ABC4 Utah reported Thursday, July 30 that the store is one of at least 16 Spirit Halloween locations opening across Utah this year, 13 of them along the Wasatch Front.
Unlike most of those Utah stores, the Sandy location is not described as occupying a former tenant's space. The ABC4 listing identifies it only as "next to Old Navy," while other Wasatch Front locations are moving into vacated JOANN, Big Lots, and Bed Bath & Beyond storefronts. The former occupant of the Sandy unit has not been publicly identified.
A busy stretch of State Street
The Spirit Halloween arrival adds to a wave of commercial activity on Sandy's State Street corridor in 2026. PinkBox Doughnuts received a business license at 10235 S. State Street on April 28, and The Vitamin Shoppe was licensed at 10515 S. State Street on April 29, according to Sandy City business license records. Two blocks south, the Utah Mammoth Ice Center opened at 10450 S. State Street in February in the former Macy's footprint on the south side of South Towne Mall.

Spirit Halloween is operating a record 1,575 stores across the United States and Canada in 2026 and hiring 52,000 seasonal associates and managers, its largest workforce ever, according to USA Today. Seasonal employees at corporate-owned locations receive a 30% merchandise discount, and store managers are eligible for end-of-season bonuses. Applications opened in March.
Nationally, nearly one in three Spirit Halloween locations this year sits in a space left behind by JOANN, Big Lots, Party City, or Rite Aid, all of which went through recent bankruptcy or liquidation.
The stores typically operate from around Aug. 1 through early November, according to company spokesperson Marisa Simonson. The Sandy store's exact opening date within August and its square footage have not been announced. Shoppers can check the Spirit Halloween store locator for updates.
