Sandy-area families looking to stretch their back-to-school budgets will have a chance to shop gently used children's items when the Utah Kids Market takes over Mountain America Expo Center from Wednesday, July 29, through Saturday, August 1.
The four-day pop-up consignment sale, which the organizer's website says runs each spring and fall at the State Street venue, brings together inventory from local families selling outgrown clothing, shoes, toys, baby gear, books, and boutique brands. Sellers are advised to price items at 50 to 90 percent off retail, according to the Utah Kids Market website, with a minimum price of $4 per item.
Presale shopping opens Wednesday, July 29, from 2 to 7 p.m. for ticket holders only. Each presale ticket admits two people and is priced up to $24.91 on Eventbrite. No children under 10 are allowed during presale hours, though infants in carriers are welcome. Strollers, wagons, and large bags are also prohibited during the presale window. Tickets are not sold at the door.
Free public shopping runs Thursday, July 30, through Saturday, August 1, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.
Saturday, August 1, is the deepest-discount day. Items marked for discount are automatically half-price, according to the event website.
How consigning works
Sellers have two options. Standard consignors pay a $15 registration fee, handle their own pricing and labeling, and keep 60 percent of sales. Each consignor may list up to 400 items. VIP consignors pay $15 plus a $25 supply fee and hand off everything to the Utah Kids Market team, keeping 40 percent of sales. VIP spots require a minimum of 100 items and are limited.
Consignor item drop-off runs Monday, July 27, and Tuesday, July 28. Earnings are paid by eCheck within five business days after the event closes. Unsold items must be retrieved Saturday, August 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. Anything left behind is donated to a local charity.
